Re: Proposed Changes to KidCare - Opportunity to Comment
Dear [Parent's Name], We hope this email finds you and your family well. We're reaching out to share some important updates about Florida KidCare. Changes to KidCare: In 2023, Florida’s lawmakers passed a law to expand KidCare eligibility to families who earn up to 300% of the federal poverty level (the current eligibility limit is 200%). The expansion was supposed to take effect January 1, 2024, but was delayed. The state is now requesting approval from the federal government to implement this expansion. Whereas current KidCare premiums are $15 or $20 per month, as a part of the expansion the state proposes six (6) new premium levels based upon income levels. The proposed premiums for children in a household of four (4) would be: Annual Income Proposed Premium $41,496 - $54,600 $ 17 $54,600 - $65,520 $ 30 $65,520 - $73,320 $ 60 $73,320 - $79,560 $ 95 $79,560 - $85,800 $ 145 $85,800 - $93,600 $ 195 Above $93,600 (unsubsidized) $ 248 These premiums would increase by 3% every year. What you can do: Florida’s proposal is open for public comment, and the federal government wants to hear directly from people who will be affected by it. Make your voice heard by submitting a public comment by April 28, 2024. It’s really easy to do. Public comments can and do make a meaningful difference in the changes that are ultimately approved. We encourage you to share your story and perspective on how these proposed changes would affect your family. For example:
